Meet Us

Meghan

Portland’s Paws Owner

I'm thrilled to have landed in this spot at Portland's Paws, with sunny days (and snowy ones too for that matter!) spent playing with some of the coolest pets imaginable. How lucky is it to consider kitty head scratches "work"? Or setting your alarm so you can go to work early to take a pack of excited dogs for a hike? I'm a native Maine girl, went to Hebron Academy and Dickinson College, then ended up in the Portland area about 7 years ago in a tiny apartment in a pet free building. Today I live on a pond (to the delight of my dog and all of his friends who come to stay here) in Scarborough with a husband, two cats, and a Labrador/Dachshund mix named Pedroia. Portland's Paws has given me the opportunity to meet some amazing pets and their owners, and it's awesome to make a career out of brightening a pet's day. The purrs and tail wags make it fun to get out of bed and go to work! Thanks for your interest in Portland's Paws.

Dog Walker, Pet Sitter, and Paws Adventurer Guru

I grew up in Bangor, Maine and have lived all over the place. I am now happily living in Saco and have no plans on leaving anytime soon. I am a student at Southern Maine Community College studying behavioral health. I have two rescue dogs of my own, Isaac and Annabelle. I recently have volunteered at Mainely Rat Rescue as a foster home for furry little critters. I have worked with animals, primarily dogs, since I have been old enough to work. Working for Portland's Paws is the best job I have had yet. Every day is a new adventure for the pups and I!

I am from Grand Isle, Vermont. I have gone to school for a couple of different things, my first degree's in Travel and Tourism from Champlain College, and my second degree's in Horse Management and Production from The Ohio State University. I also have a class B commercial driver's license and I am a certified medical transcriptionist. I have been farm-sitting/pet-sitting for over five years now. I also have a horse named Plato and he is the highlight of my life. Thanks for checking out my bio and Portland's Paws, and I hope to meet you and your pet(s)!

Dog Walker, Pet Sitting Guru and Paws Adventurer

I grew up in Maine and currently live in Portland. Since the day I was born in an apartment in Biddeford, I have been surrounded by animals (I have pictures to prove it!) and have loved them immensely. It was this love for animals and nurturing the environment that led me to pursue a B.S. degree in biology with a minor in biochemistry from USM. There, I dipped into a lot of different branches of biology and through my studies, I became increasingly concerned about the state of nature, and decided to go to graduate school in Canterbury, England to get a M.Sc. in Conservation Biology (DICE, UKC). I have had a range of experiences working with animals since graduate school including horseback riding, surveying piping plovers with the Rachel Carson NWR, and working with goats, chickens and sheep at Wolfe’s Neck Farm. Now I am working at Portland’s Paws and having the opportunity to hang out, observe and enhance the lives of people’s pet while getting lots of exercise. I am happily married with two wonderful cats, Pi and Theta.

Dog Walker and Pet Sitter Extraordinaire

I have a varied career due to my short attention span. I've worked as a mascot, nonprofit program coordinator, US Census Bureau surveyor, bouncer, and anything else that comes along that promises adventure. I took on dog walking and pet sitting for my love of animals and exercise. Eventually, I'd like to add "astronaut," "spy," or "major league baseball player" to my resume. I am an obsessive environmentalist, and I like sturdy, yet hip shoes. I was born in Texas, raised in New York, and yet consider myself a Mainer. Somewhere in there was a college education. "Give a dog a fish and you will feed him for a day. Teach a dog to fish and there will be chaos."

I grew up in Kennebunk, ME and I have a long and varied employment history! As of late, I walk dogs for Portland's Paws and I also work with 7 horses. I have always had a love for animals that goes back to my childhood when I used to dress up my cat in doll clothes and push him around in a baby stroller!!! Now that's a patient cat!!! We always had a dog and a cat growing up and I began my love for horses when I was 12. I am an all around animal lover! I currently live in Portland with my husband Kevin and our 2 Italian greyhounds, Cosmo and Chloe. It has been such a pleasure "working" with Portland's paws, I have learned so much and could not ask for a better job!

I sing in the community chorus The Blue Lobster Troupe and I write for The West End News and The Munjoy Hill Observer. I am interested in local politics and work on Green issues and campaigns. I have a sweet cat at home named Aki. When I was in my early twenties I worked at a pet groomers in Boston, and I was in charge of the doggie daycare there. I love working at Portland's Paws!

Portland's Paws was designed out of a desire to create, operate, and maintain the best possible full service pet care program in and around Portland, ME. Having a pet of our own meant that we, me and my husband Mark, were occasionally faced with having to find additional care for her when we travelled. Kenneling her was forever out of the question. When we moved back to Boston from the Virgin Islands where we had rescued Courage, our amazingly kind, compassionate and loyal coconut retriever, I found work as a professional dog walker and pet sitter in the Back Bay. Boston Pet Sitters taught me the ropes and gave me the tools to confidently decide to build Portland's Paws once we moved to Maine in the summer of 2006. Many years, staff, and adored clients later, Portland's Paws continues to thrive with the same diligence and professional attention to tradition and innovation.
